The GeneWays database contains information on genes and their functional interactions, provided by the GeneWays system. GeneWays is an integrated system that analyzes interactions between molecular substances, drawing on multiple sources of information to infer a consensus view of molecular networks. GeneWays is designed as an open platform, allowing researchers to query, review, and critique the stored information. The GeneWays database has been generated by text mining of more than 360,000 full text papers and of more than eight million publicatin abstracts.

In the repository pane the Data directory of the GeneWays database has two subdirectories: Gene and Reaction. When you click on any gene entry, information about the gene will be retrieved from the Entrez database. When you click on any reaction entry, you will find the reaction title, links to Entrez for both incoming and outgoing molecules and the link to the PubMed entries of the corresponding publication in the information box below.

The GeneWays database is used in BioUML and its derivative products for analysis of co-regulated genes and identification of master regulators. The platform provides possibility to visualize networks from the GeneWays database.
